Searching for Roy G Biv II - Yellow update 1

Yellow is a color I will forever associate with spring because of the jonquils and goldenrod that seem to explode from the ground once the temperatures begin to warm.

Yellow is present in small splashes around the house and in my studio as well. From the collage made by friend and Torpedo Factory artist Jeanne Garant, to my trusty measuring tape, to the fringe of a scarf Deb brought me from her India trip. And then there's a sight we see everyday...a simple yellow line painted against a black textured background.

Among the yellows around the house are photos taken by me in 2008 when my husband and I went to China to bring the little urchins home. Yellow, in all its variations, was as prevalent a color as red and the two were often found in combination. Alas, I never stopped to inquire why or what meaning the two had.

The middle photo gives you an idea why not and what our days were (and still are) filled with. That's Grace happily chewing on a fabric duck while Ellie stretches to reach the alphabet cube.

For more yellows, take a stroll over to see what Julie, Maya, Fiona and Deb have found this month. Do you have yellow?

Lisa and Kim answered the call for yellow. And they are delightful!

Searching for Roy G Biv - Yellow...updated

In the never ending quest to find Roy G Biv,
I scoured London for examples of July's color and found them everywhere.

Hey Julie! This post is for you.

From the buoys in the Thames

to a building neaby

to the dock behind the Tower Hotel
[where we stayed]
yellow seemed to be a favorite color.

It was used to transform a simple door

and add interest to a  metal sculpture along the Thames River walk.

Even the graffiti along Brick Lane used it well.

Looking up in London always provided a surprise or two.
This time a bit of color on an office building along the Thames.

The bicycle leaning nonchalantly against this store front
on Portobello Road was a favorite

as were the glass knobs in another shop.

Our last morning in London found me photographing
this sculpture and it's watery reflection after an enthusiastic rain.

There's even one of the most famous yellows of all,
proudly displayed from Tower Bridge.

 Back home, these dancing ducks,
that were a gift to the girls from Grandma Joanna,
make my heart sing with silly happiness each time
I watch them shaking their tail feathers to the tune of the sun.

Have you got yellow?

Arzigogolare has the most intriguing yellows that she took in Venice.

London - Day 1

I'm one of these people who still find it quite amazing that one can board an airplane in the evening,
sleep a bit while in flight and land in another country clear across the Atlantic the next morning.

Thursday night I boarded an airplane.

Friday morning I landed in London.

After a much needed nap, my husband and I began to walk
and I began to look up

 and out...at London Bridge...

while we searched for a place to eat.

The architecture,

the art,

the design found here is wonderful.

A bit of a rest was called for so we took a seat by the Thames
and enjoyed soaking up the ambiance of the area.

Strolling again, I found a river running through the street

as well as a bit of London yellow.

The area has been inundated with rain so when the sky shone a brilliant blue,
I nearly expected to hear cheers all around.

Searching for Roy G Biv - green

My friend Julie of the Julie B Booth blog, wrote a post the other day entitled Searching for Roy G Biv which showed the most beautiful yellow hibiscus and included the words Yellow. 'Nuf said.

I looked from the hibiscus photo to the blog title to Julie's short text a couple of times, wondering all the while what the connection was. Was Roy G Biv a botanist? Was he an author as well? Or an artist, perhaps, of botanical illustrations. Just what did Roy G Biv have to do with a yellow hibiscus?

So...oh! the laughter really can be heard via cyberspace, you know...I did a quick Google search on Mr Biv.
[I know that sound! Someone just fell off their chair from laughing so hard!] And felt like a blooming idiot. [pun totally intended] Never had I heard the colors of the rainbow referred to as Roy G Biv. Or if I have, it was long ago forgotten.

The funny thing...admittedly not near as funny as my not knowing what Roy G Biv is...is that the day Julie posted yellow was the same day I had posted Red. A challenge was issued [from me to her] to see who could post orange, which Julie won with photos from SCAD, better known as Savannah College of Art and Design.

With red, orange and yellow covered, green is next and it's my turn. Here are a few offerings from around the house.
