Perspective

Seems ages since I've been here - way longer than the little more than a month that it has actually been. The time away began as a byproduct of the holidays - too much to do and too little time so something had to give and the blog was it.

But as the holidays came and went, the time away allowed for much contemplation

and rumination as to what I hope to achieve in 2016.

All that thinking lead to changes in perception

and perspective

regarding my art.

2016 just might be a year of very creative art math - figuring out how

1 = 15 and how + 1 more = 22.

Here's to fulfilling and creative year!

  1. Oooh - how interesting this is! Stitch to the fore together with colour to make pattern! Brilliant ... but so time-consuming ...?

    1. All that hand stitching was, indeed, time consuming, but was done over the period of September 2014 to April 2015. Glad you like it. Happy 2016!

    1. Thank you Leanne! Writing the CPS column was a bit surreal - especially seeing my words and work in print. Enjoy!

    1. More info...let's see. The top 2 photos are the before (cropping) and after shots of the piece in the first photo. This is part of my "waiting = stitching" (or if you're on instagram it's #waitingequalsstitching) series that I began when my daughters started taking various lessons after school. I carried the black cotton with me everywhere and stitched on trains, airplanes, in the car, in the mornings when the house was quiet, etc.

      The latest piece (top photo) was started September 2014 and finished April 2015. It was all intuitive stitching using the straight or running stitch and had been hanging in the studio. I toyed with the idea of cropping it into smaller, more intimate pieces and even posted about it at least once before. The consensus then was to leave it whole. Well...I finally decided to just crop it along with another smaller piece of stitching.

      My plan now is to order some frames and sell them. Just need to decide what sort of matte to use - square or portrait. I'm leaning toward portrait.

      I'd love your thoughts.

    1. Many thanks Corrine! Black makes these colors sing. Tried the same on white and it just lacks that extra kick. Enjoy!

    1. Funny that you paired patience and balance. It's the stitching that allows for the patience to filter in. Not one of my better qualities...being patient. Thank you for kind thoughts.
