As I got #8 out a few minutes ago to stitch on, I paused to look at the area still to be stitched. The page measures 9 inches x 20 inches with the work area being 3 inches x 13 inches. So far, only the top 3 inches have been stitched. More holes needed punching which caused me to wonder...if I go ahead and punch holes along the remaining 10 inches now (instead of an area at a time as I'd been doing), is it really possible to accept what is there and not add more holes as the process continues?
Sounds like a challenge to me. Let's see how it goes.
Such an interesting dilemma J- I am honestly not sure how it would go. I expect for me that despite liking to plan ahead a bit, I nearly always have to respond to what is front of me, so I think even if you did pierce the full strip, that you might need to add a few along the way - will be intrigued to discover how it plays. Go well.
ReplyDeleteOh...I've failed the challenge already. There were a couple of spots that simply begged for an extra little stitch, but only 2...well...maybe 3...little bitty stitches...really...
DeleteI'm sure it is ... and I wait with interest to see what materialises.
ReplyDeleteIncidentally, I've been stitching into some small croppings from black and white photos on watercolour paper over on my blog ... the possibilities of stitch are endless!
I need to stroll over to your blog, don't I? Stitching on black and white photos is intriguing.
DeleteThe holes themselves make a nice counterpoint. Will be curious to see where you go with this piece. xox
ReplyDeleteThank you Corrine! A friend thought the holes looked like French knots at first glance. Food for thought for future pieces. Enjoy!
DeleteLoving this set of work. Your sharing of your process is very generous and exciting.
ReplyDeleteConsidering how sublime I think your stitching is, your comment means a lot. Thank you Judy.
DeleteLove this work, Jennifer AND I was looking for unrelated materials at Talas, the conservation supplier and they have the St Armand black denim paper in 18 x 24 inch sheets at what I think are good prices. That's a useful size!

Whoops, the link I gave you was the thinner version I think. The thicker version is the 22x30 sheet which you already know about. Drat! But they do carry all the colors.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the info Liz! I actually worked up enough nerve to call St Armand on Thursday. The second the phone was answered with Bonjour, all my years of French fled and I couldn't even remember how to ask if the kind lady spoke English. She did and we enjoyed a good laugh before I placed an order. Enjoy!
Deletej'aime ce travail ...patience et beauté...
ReplyDeleteMerci ELFI!
DeleteGood Luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Truthfully, I've already failed...but only slightly...if that counts. Enjoy!
DeleteI think slight failures = success.
