My week

With the fall term of school beginning last week, it's been possible to reacquaint myself with the studio. After giving my work table a good clearing (happily, there really was a table beneath all the stuff that had accumulated and grown exponentially over the summer), I settled in and applied to two exhibitions. Many thanks to Christine for the photo resizing info!

Next was the completion of a set of direct rust print and mono print squares that have been in the works for far longer than they should have been.

There's a collaboration brewing with Bridgette that will involve my rusted cottons. Very early stages yet, but we've taking it beyond the wistful emails stage to actually having a few concrete-ish ideas.

Circles were calling me again, both small

and large. The larger spurred what if #758

so after unearthing my bolt of white cotton, I set to work filling the cloth using an object found nearly everywhere.

Can you guess what it is?

    1. Ha! Too funny Fiona! Knew I'd hit the wrong key, but hadn't realized it had actually posted with my usual gibberish place holder as the photos loaded. Hope the post makes a bit more sense now. Enjoy!

    1. Great guess Judy, but no. Need to find my angel food cake pan now and see how it prints. Stay tuned.

  3. Loving the real post J - so much meandering and wandering and playing; and all with such beautiful results! No idea what you were printing with sorry can't tell how large or small, but it looks like a vinyl record! Continue to enjoy.

    1. Now that I can step back and have the separation of a few days, I realize just how difficult it would be for anyone to guess what was used. Sorry about that! Since beginning to really experiment with circles while at Pam's, I'd been wanting to grab a roll of toilet paper and see what happened. So I did. Brand new roll and the prints from it are wonderful...or at least I think so. May just have to try a roll of paper towels next. Stay tuned!

    2. It must be something in the air . . . I've been folding and rolling the cardboard tp cores and stuffing as many of the rolled ones as will fit into an un-manipulated one. It makes a very interesting set of stamps.

If you haven't yet gone the vegetable route, I recommend cabbages, in particular Savoy cabbages.

      best,
      Melanie

    3. Welcome Melanie! Love your idea of folding and rolling the tp cores and stuffing them inside another. Do you mind if I try that? As for vegetables, I do keep eyeing the core of lettuces and cabbages, but haven't yet stamped with them. Onions are good to use and the odd radish or potato has been experimented with. At heart, it's the pure geometric shapes that I'm in love with.

      Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy!

    4. Oh, please, do go ahead. I'm of the 'the more the merrier' school when it comes to this sort of thing and I wouldn't have mentioned it if I felt proprietary about it. I'm not that kind of girl. ;-)

  4. I love the variations within the theme here - each circle is slightly different even though they're made with the same object. I don't have a clue what it is, but I like Fiona's idea of printing with a vinyl record!

    1. It's fun to play and see what happens. Circles have been present in my work for a very long time...just in different ways, even when I was still weaving. Enjoy!
