A celebration

Today is my friend Katy's birthday.

An artist in her own right, she doesn't see herself as such.

Always putting family and friends first,

she dreams of joining Pam and I on our artist retreats.

And that is what it is...a dream,

for she will never do it, will never take time for herself.

Katy told me once - when I was angry at the world, at moving, at leaving family, friends and home behind -

that she was not going to let me not be her friend.

Something kept me from walking away from her...from her audacity at telling me that that day.

8 years later, I'm treating her to lunch in celebration of her birthday and our friendship...and giving her this book, newly finished just this morning as she so admired the journals made at Pam's. Shhh....Katy doesn't know I've made her one. Thankfully, she doesn't read the blog!

    1. Thank you Catarina! I've just returned from lunching with Katy and can happily report that she loved the book and the story the pages tell. I managed to get her to promise to add her own marks. Of course, I'll need to ask her hand in her homework to make sure...

      Enjoy!

  5. Hi J - true friendships are so precious - it is good that you held on and that you can share such creative gifts with K - she will join you when she can. Go well. B

    1. Personally, I think I'm the lucky one. Katy wouldn't let me walk away and that ended up being a very good thing...for us both. Still miss my friends from Virginia though. Need to take a long weekend to see everyone, don't I?

  8. What a lovely story of strong women and strong friendships - celebrating both! I think one of the reasons I make is so that I can give little bits of me away to friends - gifts of love and care, thoughtfulness. This looks just like a gift like that…special.

    1. Thank you Susan! I must admit that you and Fiona are in my thoughts when working on these journals. Katy loves journal and has said that she's even made a couple marks in it. Maybe she'll show me soon...
