Arriving at my parents' house on Tuesday, this prickly pear cactus caught my eye.
It began in the neighbor's yard and decided to befriend the couple next door.
Aptly named, for there are the tiniest, most slender needles everywhere it seems.
The reddish purple pear or fig of this particular cactus had me hovering - wondering
and sorting through the what ifs flitting through my mind.
I decided to start with the easiest what if. Prickly pear cactus on khadi paper.
As I'll be here for a few weeks, various art supplies were brought along...including my crock pot and several pristine white t-shirts from Dharma which are just waiting to be added to a dye pot. Can you guess what I plan to do later today?
Rich, deep and delicious color Jennifer. This is inspired and fun. xo C
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine the fun of slicing the pear in circles? Or strips? Or...... Stay tuned!
DeleteI adore prickly pear plants. I love how close up you got! Almost unrecognizable. I can't get that close with my camera even in macro. Nice work. Cactus floor me.
ReplyDeleteRoberta, I have a Canon PowerShot G11. The macro setting does a pretty good job for a point and shoot. Several needles found their way onto my jacket...and worked their way into my arm. Not sure the cactus appreciated the close contact.
DeleteWhat a glorious deep magenta - will look forward to the results.
ReplyDeleteStay tuned. Planning to break out the crock pot tomorrow.
DeleteI have prickly pear all around my house. Just last week I picked some of the fruit to experiment with--they are still sitting in a bag. So this is inspiring. Also they are what the cochineal insect love. Too cold for them now, will be checking back next summer.
ReplyDeleteGlorious colour, looking forward to seeing further experiments
ReplyDeleteHoping to unpack the crock pot today and play. Stay tuned!
DeleteGorgeous colour, amazing pattern very exotic xx
ReplyDeleteThe color and patterns beg playing with, don't they? So funny to think that "exotic" exists in Tennessee.
Deletegorgeous and love those pages, yes, exotic!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth! The prickly pear was definitely a surprise and one that I'll glady experiment with.
