Beach week

My family has gathered in North Carolina for beach week. The sun has been shining, the temps are hot, the water is cool...all is as it should be. The beach is working its magic with me and will hopefully sooth away the ennui that had been plaguing me lately.

I rose this morning just in time to fix a cup of tea and watch the sunrise play with the clouds.

After time at the beach and pool, after 2 bike rides, ice cream, lots of family and down time, I snuck away for a few minutes to experiment.

This journal of khadi paper yearned to go for a walk by the water and then...

decided to take a little dip. Thoroughly drenched (yes, both of us courtesy of a sneaky wave), we ventured back to the house to change

into something a little rusty....the book, not me.

I'll see how it looks in the morning. Who knows? A little tea may be just the call.

Night all.

  1. Love the pics of the sunset and of the book. I need to start thinking about Scotland!

    1. Thanks Christine! It was fun to dunk the book in the ocean and see what happened. Scotland is just around the corner. I too need to start collecting.

    1. The sunrise was gorgeous, as was this morning's. I must admit to using the sunset setting on my camera to get those vivid colors. Enjoy!

  3. J- amazing sunrise - really worth getting out of bed for. I'm sure the rust in the book should go well given its salt - will be such a good momento of the week by the beach. Enjoy. B

    1. Sunrises at the beach are always worth getting out of bed for. Well, I think they are. The others in the house might not agree. The rust book has been a bit surprising...some good prints, some not so good. Got it so wet the binding glue gave and pages are coming out. Just means I get to rebind it somehow. Enjoy!

  4. Gorgeous pics! It is hellishly hot here and no cool ocean or sea breezes. You picked a good week to be at the beach! Can't wait to see if there is some rusting on the pages of your journal. I read in one of India's books that sea water is a great mordant. Looking forward to your Indigo tomorrow.

    1. It's in the 90's here and humid, but the ocean breeze does help alleviate it all...as does the ocean itself. When we tire of being tossed about by waves, there's always the community swimming pool.

The book is interesting...and falling apart. Guess I gave it too good a dunking. Tonight is cotton's turn. We'll see how it plays with ocean's salty water and my rusty bits.

  5. I'd somehow missed your glorious sunrise posts - a holiday of our own with family in France and only sporadic internet connection is the reason, I guess. Now I'm catching up and enjoying.
How beautiful they all are, your photos - both days' worth. The sea is immensely calming, relaxing and inspiring ... enjoy!
