A surprising find
As I drove the little urchins to gymnastics on Tuesday, taking our usual route, something new caught my eye. It was rather large and dark. It demanded attention...which I hadn't the time to give at that point. A few days later, my camera and I ventured up the road a bit to give the surprising find a bit more attention.

Wow that's one spectacular bird and all those nails .You must be beside yourself with the prospect of all the rust that's possible.

ReplyDeleteLyle, I have no idea how this was done, but would love to know. All I can say for sure is that it was not there last week when I took the girls to gymnastics and passed by the same spot twice. I'm assuming that the bird is welded somewhere, but not that I could see. The nails on the ground look to have been artfully laid out. As tempting as it was to touch and see if those on the ground were loose, I resisted and kept my hands on the camera.

ReplyDeleteBarry, as far as I can tell the nails are real. Some are enormous. I've been looking online to find galvanized nails that big, but haven't managed to yet. Probably not using the correct wording or something. Do you think someone would have made them especially for this? I'll definitely go back to photograph the rusting and will take closer look...although I was pretty close the other day. Thankfully, it's in a medical and professional park so no one paid any attention to me. Just smiled at the crazy lady taking pictures of the sculpture. Enjoy!

DeleteA wonderful description, Valerianna. As amazing as the sculpture is, at a certain point, it was the nails on the ground and their patterns that captivated me. I'd love to know who the artist is, but haven't managed to locate any info.

DeleteThe photos are also how I saw it. Well, except I saw the full sculpture first and then the details. Still...it's how my mind works.

ReplyDeleteYou asked on my blog about a green photo. I put a green filter lens from a 1950's Argus camera on my cell phone, used Fun Tack. The photo is of a rock with a small puddle, seed fluff, plant reflections and shadows.

and could see things not seen on Tuesday.
Not welding marks. Molding marks perhaps.
Either way, creative construction was definitely in play.
