PIttsburgh - Beautiful

Potty talk isn't really proper, is it? Especially not in public...which a blog certainly is. However, I find myself compelled to discuss the facilities (downstairs) at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Those with delicate constitutions should probably stroll along to another blog. Those with curious (or potty humor loving) constitutions should stay put.

Upon arriving at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Pam and I decided a visit to the lady's room was in order. Down we descended into the catacombs of the building, only to be greeted by a somewhat odd vision on the stall doors.

Well, you know me...I viewed this oddity and immediately brought the camera out to record it. After all, how often does one see writing - and in such a lovely font at that - on the outside of the stall door?

We stood laughing - mostly at me taking photos in the bathroom. Then we turned to the mirrors.

With camera still in hand...and still taking photos, we laughed even harder.

And then Pam leaned down so that beautiful text could be seen. And we are, aren't we? Beautiful, that is. Our cheeks all rosy from enjoying lunch outside at Daphne's Cafe...well...and laughing so hard.

Safe travels to us both today as we wend our way home. And the countdown is on until the 4th Annual Artist Retreat in Oz. Yep, I fly out on May 25. Wonder what we'll find ourselves working on this time around?

  1. Loved it! And gorgeous looking photos of the two of you as well - what a bonus. I almost popped when I read the artists retreat in Oz...and then I remembered oh, THAT Oz, not ours. Wow I was jumping here! We will be in Japan then - so lucky it wasn't our Oz...

    1. Sorry Fiona! I meant the Kansas version of Oz...this time. One day we'll venture over to your Oz. By the way, why is Australia called Oz?

Japan? A place I've dreamed of visiting. What adventures you'll have...and what photos you'll take to share? Hint, hint.

      Enjoy!

    2. Safe travels to you Fiona as well are you heading on this trip to share with the kids and families affected by the tsunami - working with a school and also doing some free workshops at the Citizen’s festival in Tatebayashi? Good luck - cheers!!

    3. Hi J - well, we call ourselves Aussies (but it is said Ozzies not Ossies), so we shorten everything and end up with we're from Oz! It's a quick trip to Japan for a sister city exchange, no real sight seeing this time around, but hopefully still some photos. Yes, Wyn the one and the same but shorter!

    4. Sister city exchange? That must be very interesting to participate in. Art involved?

  2. I've really been enjoying your last few posts on your adventures with Pam [you two could be/look like sisters!] and this one is the icing on your traveling cake ~ a 'Beautiful' bathroom post, BRILLIANT! It's been nice to have the opportunity to travel vicariously ... even into subterranean surrounds!!

    1. Sweetpea, your comment brought a smile. The week of travel, art and food with Pam was brilliant indeed. The Beautiful bathroom is the one at basement level. Wonder what message the one on the upper level held? Next time. Happy to have you along as a traveling companion!

  3. This is a cracker - who would think to put such gorgeous stuff on the Loo Door!! But even more gorgeous are the two crazy ladies who thought to share it!! Cheers to you both - hope you have a safe trip - I am painting this morning and saving your blogs to sit down with and view in comfort tonight - given that you say these are better than the last lot - I can hardly wait!!! Whooo!!

    1. Exactly! This is the first time I've seen writing on the outside of the stall door. And the insides were text free! How odd is that?

  4. total comic relief: you had me wondering mightily about the potty thing, remember, i work with teen boys who only rival middleschoolboys in their interest in "bathroom things".

    1. Too funny! Guess my post was tamer than you're accustomed to potty humor-wise. It sure tickled our funny bones.

  6. Hi J - you just can't take the camera away from some people - even in the toilet - though I do see the attraction - very upmarket toilets and why not celebrate and record your own reflected beauty. Like Fiona I did the J coming to OZ thing but then read your response to Fiona. Still enjoy your Kansas retreat - and yes one day you will make it to 601mvr. Go well and enjoy. B

    1. There's really no good way to redeem myself after having taken a photo in the ladies room, is there? Does it count that the photos are from the outside of the stall...?

As for a trip to your Oz...trust me, when it finally happens, you and Fiona will be the first know about it. And it will happen one day. Enjoy!

    1. Oh my goodness. My apologies all 'round for the heart palpitations of my Australian friends due to my Oz comment. Pam lives in Kansas now and, if you've grown up seeing The Wizard of Oz once a year as I did...well...Kansas = Oz. So I kid Pam and break into giggles whenever any of the songs from The Wizard of Oz are played while visiting. Totally immature of me, I know, but it just hits me as so hilarious. I'm still waiting to hear the carillons on campus (University of Kansas) playing Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Pam will probably have to have me committed when that happens - the laughter will never end.

      Enjoy!
