Violet Revisited

The November Roy G Biv challenge was this past Thursday. The end has been reached with violet...sort of. There are other colors to explore - such as black, white or black & white. What do you think? What other colors would you like to help look for? Should metalics be on the list - gold, silver, copper. Ooh! Just imagine the patinas that copper could bring...

Back to violet...I happened to be in New York City yesterday and found myself wondering if there were purples to be discovered.

While strolling on the way to Japan Society to see Silver Wind: The Arts of Sakai Hōitsu, I happened to glance up in time to see the sun shining on a corner of a house that had me wondering if my eyes and mind were playing a a trick on me.

Purple cabbages graced the walkways and the market on Madison Avenue had its share of purple too.

I have to say that my favorite purple of the day was even more of a surprise than the house. On my way back to Grand Central Station, this vehicle passed by...and thankfully was stopped by a red light! Wonder who all those lovely balloons were for?

  1. Hey Jennifer- Love this addition to the Challenge. You seem to have purple/violet "radar"! I'd love to continue this if you would. Making a piece of white Challenge fabric could be interesting... Let's discuss via fb.

    1. I'm all for continuing focusing on one color per month. Since we're going into winter...and it's likely to snow up here...should white be December's color?

    1. In NYC, it definitely pays to look up every now and then. The critter was fun, but I resisted. Maybe next time.

    1. I really didn't expect to see violets at all...it being late November...so the quantity viewed actually took me by surprise. Once I saw that house, it was like a switch flicked to VIOLET and that's all I saw...well, with maybe a bit of red thrown in for good measure, but that's for another day.

So...when are you coming back to play in my part of the world?

  4. J- that photo of the building is just amazing - well done to notice it and capture it with the sun brining out the intensity of the colour. And I love the soft pink part of the wall to thew right. Guess the urchins might want you to repaint your place. I can just see it - purple with hot pink trims. Go well. B

    1. Barry, it's a good thing the little urchins are still asleep and not reading over my shoulder! Purple with pink trim...it could be done.

Oddly enough, on my return trip past the purple house, the sun was no longer gracing it and the color looked more black than purple. Not really sure what the color is, but I'm glad I looked up when the sun was still shining on it.

      Enjoy!

  5. I think those wonderful violet balloons were there for you, Jennifer! Some coincidences simply cannot be coincidental. Great addition to your violet show, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Please go on with a white and black challenge! I was thinking that maybe there could be three: white on white / black on black / black and white. And then gold /silver /copper too. Am I asking for too much?

Exactly what I was thinking! Now...to talk Julie into it. It was her reference to coupled with my knowing who Roy G Biv is that started this whole thing. Stay tuned for updates.

And weren't those purple balloons wonderful? I agree with you. I think the Fates made sure our paths crossed on Saturday. Enjoy!
