Thought I'd give you a peak at the what has been happening with My Morning Tea aka my sketchbook for the current Sketchbook Project.
Thanks are owed to Fiona for mentioning once upon a time that it is possible to print on tea bags and to Pam for sharing the tip about ironing the bags to freezer paper. Both tips worked wonderfully this morning...and, of course, have left me with a stack of what ifs.
They look so beautiful and fascinating! May I ask how you do this? Do you iron the tea bags on freezer paper and run them through your printer?
ReplyDelete(If I'm asking too much, I'm sorry.)
Thank you Ersi! I'm quite happy with how the tea bags turned out.
DeleteAs odd as it may sound, I did indeed iron the tea bags to freezer paper. After cutting a piece of freezer paper to 8 1/2 x 11 so it would fit in my printer, I laid tea bags on it and ironed them briefly with the iron set to medium and no steam. I have an inkjet printer and it worked great.
I re-used the freezer paper until tea bags would no longer stick. Nice part is that now it too can used later on and has several layers of text.
If you try this, I'd love to see your results!
Thank you so much, Jennifer, for sharing the information so generously! I will indeed try it and blog about the results. I've never done anything like it and I can't wait to try.
DeleteYou're very welcome! Yesterday was my first attempt. Just take care to lightly iron the tea bags to the freezer paper or they are likely to adhere to it...like bits of a couple of mine did. They seem to be permanently adhered. Otherwise, it peels right off.
DeleteActually, I might try some rusted organza too...or maybe even a bit of the rusted cotton. Wonder if it will work with cotton? Pam did say that it is what quilters do so...
Good luck!
Beautiful work. I too have had success in putting my tea bags through my printer. I can't wait to see what will happen in your book.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim! I'm curious...did you iron your tea bags to freezer paper or tape them to regular paper? As for the book, hopefully it will be completed this week once the girls go back to school so stay tuned for photos.
DeleteThat is a great tip you have passed on.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! I'd be interested in seeing what you do with it. Would you use it with the felting somehow?
Deletei didn't know either of those tips, although i work with teabags a lot. thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm eager to see how what you do with your tea bags now that this little tip is known. I tried it with cotton and organza {silk organza, I think} yesterday as well and it worked like a charm. Next is to reprint on the organza to create layers. Oh! This is just too much fun!
