Saturday morning found me
waiting to catch the train
to New York City to do a bit of exploring.
My first new find was Treasure and Bond
which features New York artists and
has an admirable philosophy regarding profits.
Not to mention 2 wonderful ampersands
in the store's name in the front window.
So...I wandered and roamed the streets of Tribeca using what seems to be an outdated list of stores printed from the internet all the while waiting for a phone call from a friend.
You see, I posted Off to NYC this morning to explore Tribeca on my Facebook artist page early Saturday morning and received this comment from my good friend Deb in DC.
No shit. Really? I'll call you when I get there. Don't know today's schedule yet.
We were posting simultaneously so the messages went back and forth fast and furious. Deb is a member of Batala Washington, an all woman percussion group that performs at various events including the Dominican Day parade in NYC this past weekend. Usually, after taking the bus up to NY, the group does guerilla performances across the city before taking part in a parade on Sunday.
The serendipity fates-that-be were smiling on us both on Saturday. Batala Washington had a rare Saturday afternoon free, I was on my way into NYC and we both were on Facebook before leaving for our journeys.

[I'm the short one in case you're wondering.]
We enjoyed a few precious hours together, wandering the streets and exploring shops well above the Metropolitan Museum, chatting all the while to catch up with our lives. All too soon, it was time to part ways.
Being that I was 50+ blocks away from Grand Central Station, a taxi was hailed...but halted when black and red and white polka dots were sighted, but that's for another post.
Wish we could just plan a New York afternoon wander, or a Tribeca tiptoe ..... sounds like great fun. x
ReplyDeleteA day...or two...to wander NYC with you would be lovely. There's so much to see and so many places to visit. I've only seen a handful of what's there. So...when are you coming over?
DeleteAnother day in NYC - yippee and yay! You are looking very summery! I love those last minute fabulous-friends catch ups. Looking forward to the polka dot story.
ReplyDeleteIt was nearly another day in Philadelphia to see 2 exhibits there, but I'd waited too late and the train fare was ridiculous. As it was, it was a great day to visit NYC.
DeleteJ-so good that you just hooped on the train into NYC - your are just becoming a regular; and amazing to catch up with your friend to wander the streets with - very easy for the hours to drift delightfully by. Go well. B
ReplyDeleteI miss so much of what's to see in NYC. Keep threatening John with monthly trips. Probably should take the girls with me sometime, but not quite yet. They're not yet museum friendly.
DeleteOh how exciting! You may have crossed paths with my 6 year old (step)grandchild. She arrived in NYC from South Africa on Saturday to see a specialist. Kayla is blind and the specialist may be able to help her. We are all sitting on the edge of our chairs waiting to hear news.
ReplyDeleteI like to think Kayla and I crossed paths somehow on Saturday. Maybe we were in the same place at the same time without knowing. I truly hope the specialist can help Kayla. Have you news yet? Keeping my fingers crossed for good news.
DeleteKayla has cortical vision impairment which means that if caught early exercises/therapy can train her to see in a different way to us and will certainly improve her quality of life. It all sounds very positive and they have advised that she goes to main stream school.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Kayla received good news from the doctors. Hopefully the exercises will help enough that she feels comfortable and thrives in main stream school. Sending lots of hugs and love her way.
