Our first stop was the Baltimore Museum of Art. A jewel of a museum, we fell in love with works in the Contemporary collection. Two in particular fascinated me and I'd like to share one with you.
As we strolled through the contemporary galleries, a sound could be heard coming from another room. I assumed it was a video playing and so was pleasantly surprised when I turned a corner and spied the source.
"Untitled" (Water)
1995
Strands of beads and hanging device
Simple commercial beads strung
and hung across the entryway.
The sound coupled with the movement
mesmerized me.
Hanging water was my thought even before stepping inside to read the information on the piece. I stood and gaped, fascinated, wanting to just sit on the floor and enjoy watching the movement until I became part of the piece as well.
And so I did...kind of.
I sat the camera on the floor, ran my hand across the beads and continued to photograph.
Thanks for the "Water" immersion this morning. Looks like a great start to the weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt was a good start. Neither of us had ever been to the BMA so it was a good discovery.
DeleteOk J - very blue , crystals, water v- enjoyed but just a few too many images for one who is looking at this after a long day. Enjoy the creative time out. B
ReplyDeleteSorry for the photo overload. Wasn't sure how many would be too many. Just shortened it a bit. Enjoy!
DeleteI am wondering if you are currently removing doors in your house and installing beads in their place! : ) It must have been mesmerising....
ReplyDeleteHa! Not yet. Arrived home too late last night to begin stringing beads. Given that our doorways aren't quite as impressive as that one, it's likely that the effect would be more 60's-love-child-wanna-be. Wonder if the urchins would think me very cool being that that's no doubt fashionably retro now. Still.......
DeleteHi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI admire how you "go and go," getting inspiration from the art world and your friends. And you know what a bummer it is when someone walks into your picture, while you're taking it? Well, the beads with the little girl dancing through them is the best shot ever! You really give me the feeling of being there!
Usually it is a bummer when someone walks into your shot, but this little girl was having a blast and I love the movement of her walking through one last time. Her mother apologized. I should have showed the photo and asked if she'd like a copy. Next time....
DeleteGreat floor shot! Now, if only I could hear the beads too! Thank you for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteShould I admit that there's a 21 second video that my camera just happened to have on it when the photos were downloaded? Didn't see a no video sign...
