Perspective

It all depends on how you look at it.

Is it better to see the whole?

Or the details?

Little by little, slightly shifting focus?

Should it be this way?

Or that?

  3. The whole is great but segmenting is fascinating. It gives each section a special value - makes you look at colours and shape and proportion in a different way ... Fascinating!

  4. Although I love seeing the beautiful details in the small - the whole makes me sigh - a huge long loving sigh. I love seeing the edges. Beautiful

  5. Christine, Debbie, Velma and Kim - Thank you for your thoughts! I like the full piece as well, but at 28.5" long x 7-7.5" wide, I've yet to figure out the best way (or any way....) to display it. Do I layer it atop another black to make it large enough to wrap around a canvas? Do I cut archival foam board to 5" x 25" and wrap it? Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. display is always a problem. i like it on top of a flat fabric base...and the threads then breathe. or maybe a hoop of some sort? or a book (he he he)

  6. Charlton - As much as I love the full piece, the details make my heart sing. My friend Pam will be laughing out loud because for years - and I really do mean years as we've know each other for 14 or more - she's been creating large pieces only to crop them into smaller, more intimate ones...with me kicking and screaming all the while to leave it large, yet seeing how glorious they become when cropped. Of course, now she's working installation-size-large so....we both win.

Now....if I crop the piece into smaller bits, does it (big gulp) go into a frame under glass?

  7. You are so right!...I am laughing out loud. I do love the "cropped" pieces. Each has a beautiful, simplicity that you wouldn't have without working large first. But in this case I also love the large piece and I would mount it on a larger board or canvas with the raw edges visible...like the fragment (of a larger piece) that it appears to be. When you stop laughing at my change of direction, I know you will find the perfect solution!

  9. Hi J - so much fun when one can think about turing one piece into interesting fragments - so many options to shops of this detail or that. Go well and fragment well. B

  10. I love it in its entirety Jennifer but you can't deny that each vignette works as a stand alone piece. Such great colour combinations in the black , blue and red. Whatever you choose will work for me. Fabulous!
