In the studio

Been playing with tea bags this week.

What have you been doing?

  1. I continue to be amazed that your teabags hold up to machine stitching...are you using a particular brand? So what have I been doing? Painting lots of fabrics and using my Confectioner's Sugar resist. I'll post some photos tomorrow. Also...cutting lots of fabric squares. Starting work on the next newsletter tomorrow...Yawn...time for bed!

    1. No particular brand of tea, just the one's that I like and that have regular shaped tea bags. Remember, it's a paper made for filtering tea. It's delicate yet strong.

I'm waiting on pins and needles to see what you're doing with the fabric squares. Enjoy!

  2. Your play with tea bags is beautiful Jennifer! I so love the colours, layers, designs. I keep going back to look at them over and over!
As for me - I am trying to clean up the studio, finish some started projects and enjoy the long summer days.

    1. I am honored that you like my play with tea bags Kim. What you do with them amazes me and, like you, I keep going back to look at yours. Isn't cleaning the studio a full time job? Everytime mine seems neat and orderly, I just mess it all up again. There are so many bins sitting on the sidelines right now that I barely have room to walk...but I manage!

      Enjoy the summer!

    1. Thank you Anca! When I think of all the tea I've consumed in my 53 years and the number of tea bags that were thrown away.... Ah, well, if only I'd known that they would become an art material.

Just curious, what flavors of tea are tickling your taste buds these days? I've recently discovered a rose scented tea by Harney & Sons that I can't enough of. Enjoy!

    1. Hi Monica. You know, I hadn't realized that you live in the UK. Thought you were over here in the New York area for some reason. As for the tea bags, I'm using regular old paper tea bags...Lipton and a lot of Stash teas lately.

I've been following your pastel paintings in awe. You're on a lovely journey. Thanks for sharing it.

    1. Hi Fiona! You're absolutely right, tea bags have incredible potential. I need to drink more tea so I've enough bags to play with. Good think I like tea, huh?

As for your boxes...those that house your and Susan's books? They're exquisite.

  7. its amazing how strong the paper is in tea bags isnt it? .. i do so enjoy reading your postings - love the rusting, tea bags and the stitching patterns and breaking them. i can so relate. i did a recent exercise and found that everything i do is about breaking up, cutting, taking apart, smashing, burning, burying and then putting back together again ....

i wonder what it says about us ? ... :) .... and whatever, i love it and it seems so do others ... rusting is wonderful isnt it .. love the serendipity

    1. I so agree you Gina! There is something about the serendipity of rusting that is addictive...as is working with tea bags at the moment for me. The translucence alone is such a joy to work with, yet when combined with the possibilities of layering...well, I need to drink way more tea!
