White.
From frost on my windshield
to the froth on my cappuccino
or the arrows found on a NYC building,
white symbolizes light,
purity and cleanliness.
It reminds one of home and
that magic exists.
White can be hard
or soft
and every now and then
just a bit mysterious.
What does white remind you of?
Liz Davidson has snowy whites on a blue day.
Mary Jane has a celestial body of white.
Fiona has the white of peace.
Julie, like me, has a variety of whites.
Ersi has a state of white.
Lisa has mise en place whites.
India has roving whites.
Barry has silvery healing whites.
Christine has playful salty whites.
Elizabeth has brilliant snowy whites.
Karen forecasts snowy whites.
Shipbuilding has wrapped whites.
Velma has snowy whites.

Do you have white?
I think of undyed perfection in nature such as the long spiraling curls of fleece on a snowy suri alpaca, a fluffy boll of cotton, or the velvety petals of gardenia. I love colorful things but those unspoiled whites will always hold a special place in my heart.
ReplyDeleteOh! I love your thoughts on white.
DeleteI love your 'white' words as much as your images, Jennifer. What a varied collection of patterns - and textures - you found for this month's challenge. I think the folded pages have captured my fancy most!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I've enjoyed about the ROY G BIV challenge is how it makes me pay attention to a particular color more than usual. My subject/focus for this month is rather narrow, but even so I am amazed at the potential. Though I took the photos yesterday, I am still going around thinking, "Oh, shoot, that would have been nice too!"
For me, white = serenity. And fresh beginnings... While originally I had thought that 'white' would be well-suited to January, it feels absolutely perfect for now.
Thank you again for the inspiration to play along with you & Julie.
You are very welcome Lisa! I'm honored that you decided to join in our search for Roy. I always marvel at your photos and sit in awe simply viewing a time or two before commenting. The same is true this month.
DeleteYour Roy G Biv entries are delightful, Jennifer! I am always surprised by the variety and ingenuity of your subjects. Your 'hard' vs 'soft' whites made me laugh and your white street discoveries are fantastic. You are a great 'colour paparazzo'!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ersi! It's funny, I'd thought that whites would be rampart this time of year, but I feel that they needed to be searched for instead. Still, I rather like my collection and am thrilled that you do to.
Deletefunny, i was just excavating in my house and found pictures of an [almost] all white installation i had made some eleven years ago. i still prefer to work in white and add colour last. less distractions for the eyes that way, i find.
ReplyDeleteI saw your white installation photos and was very drawn to it, wishing I could have seen it in person. There's a quietness, a simplicity and a powerfulness to it that speaks to me, makes me yearn to walk through it, share space with it...
DeleteEnjoy your time at home. Happy holidays!
I've always leaned towards white... and black.... I'm a monochromatic girl.... (my fav pic of your collection is the frosted windscreen - such perfect patterns)
ReplyDeleteI so agree...there's something about white...and black...and a bit of red that is just so appealing, so classic.
DeleteWe've had numerous frosty mornings lately, but only one that left such great frosty marks on the windshield. As soon my little urchins boarded the bus for school, I rushed back in to grab the camera and take a few shots...hoping all the while that the sun didn't melt them first!
J- what a beautiful quiet post - light, white and peace. Love the crystals on the glass. Sorry I have no white - maybe silver can be the new white? Go well. B
ReplyDeleteThank you Barry. The crystals are my favorite too. We've had many frosty mornings, but only the one that left such well defined and beautiful crystals. And yes, I think silver can be the new white. Enjoy!
DeleteThank you for including me in your 'white' list. I smiled through the pictures and love your view on life.
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome my dear. Your salty stitching has me mesmerized and in total awe. Whatever made you think to do that? Sheer genius...
DeleteBeautiful post that seems so well timed. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Seth! It did me a bit of good to concentrate on white just now and it seems have struck a chord with others as well. For that, I am grateful.
Deleteoh Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI love your white post!
I love white - esp. as fresh snowflakes drift quietly now
and my Dad is safely installed at the lake house after 2 days in airports dreaming white circles and collecting white: http://pinterest.com/moonoverwater/white/
thank you so much
for including me
in your sparkling whites...
thinking of you
and wishing you a joyous holiday...

Thank you Elizabeth! I found a peace to posting the white photos and to gathering the list of blogs. It helped to settle emotions that had been running very high all week due the tragedy in nearby Newtown. Glad to know your dad is at the lake house and will be with you for the holidays.
DeleteLooked at your white collection on Pinterest. Such an awesome collection you've got!
Have a lovely Christmas and New Years!
What a lovely post! And thank you for including me - I feel so special!
ReplyDeletePeace and grace,
Karen Anne
You're very welcome Karen Anne! I had fun perusing all my favorites to see who had posted something white recently. Next month will be black & white, I think, if you're care to join in the fun and post something b/w on the 3rd Thursday of January...or close to it. I'll be happy to include you again.
DeleteEnjoy!
Oh what beautiful whiteness! I so love white, and have been beginning to use it more in creations.... not sure if that will continue or not, but I hope so! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you Kim! I love white too, especially when paired with black and red. Rarely worked with it when I was weaving and am happy for the chance now. Be fun to see how you use white.
