What if #437

What if I tried machine stitching 2 tea bags together?
Would it work or would the sewing machine eat the tea bags?

It worked.

    1. It is quite wondrous when it happens, isn't it?

  2. I vote in support of 'it worked'!! Ohh, I am loving those lines of machine stitching on everything. I had so much fun stitching my subversive stitch book with the machine. Has yours smoked yet?!?!?! Keep playing and what-if-ing...

    1. Sorry, my sewing machine isn't smoking yet. I must be doing something wrong. Any suggestions? Ha! Actually, I'm still a bit surprised that the tea bags weren't eaten by the machine.

    1. I second that! Many happy dances happening here this week.

Thank you for re-commenting! Can't believe my fumbly fingers managed to hit the delete button rather than publish the first. The iPad is a tricky thing at times.

  4. Don't you just love what ifs! Something delicious often arises from such things and your teabag stitching is gorgeous. I am also enthralled with what you are doing in your Sketchbook Jennifer. The whole concept is coming together beautifully.

    1. Susan, for someone [me, that is] who spent the better part of...hmmm...3 years terrified to the point of being paralyzed, "what if" and "just do it" have been life savers. It's such a nice feeling now to have the time to explore the what ifs.

Have you started your sketchbook yet? My cover still needs addressing and a blurb about me needs to go in. Keep trying to decide if I'm going a full cover or just the front flap. Next week...

    2. Hello Jennifer. No - can't even look at the sketch book project till November December. I have to complete it by end of December because I am going to spend January working on my 'sense of place' etchings. So, November will be about the 13 envelopes and The Sketchbook Project. Have too much to tackle between now and end of October with these sculptural books I am designing. AAAHHHHH.

    3. Phew! I'm tired just reading what all you have going. But...wait...you mean we have to wait until some time in November for an update on the envelopes you and Fiona are working on? Please, say it isn't true.

  5. Hi I have just started following your blog. I love what you do and it reminded me of some work I did years ago with tea bags. If I revive this I don't want you to think I am copying as what I did was similar though different.

    1. Hi Debbie and welcome to my blog! No worries about reviving your work with tea bags. Even though what you did might be similar, we've each our own unique twist to add to things. Enjoy!

  6. I'm THIRSTY after visiting here....hmmmm, shall it be a frothy, milky sweet cup of Constant Comment or opt for something more *healthy*?!
It's certain that you've had a massively fun week, Jennifer & such good news about the sewing machine being gentler than what one might think. "Just do it" seems to be a mantra that's spreading at the moment.... ;>]]

    1. Oh....go with the Constant Comment! My personal favorite is either Lipton tea with fresh mint or a good jasmine green tea.

A year or so ago, I adopted several mantras to help move past my fears at starting down a new path art-wise. Just do it, Keep it simple, Focus and, as of the last artist retreat at Pam's, No fear. They work well for me.

  7. J-good to see that you haven't lost your crazy gene - love the numbering, the colour and the stitching - it 'worries' me that we artists find such delight in such simple things - may simple rule!!!! B

    1. No, I haven't lost the crazy gene...if anything it's been freed by the girls beginning kindergarten. My brain is actually starting to work again even! Feels good, but a bit weird.
