Indigo

It has been a while since I have shown you what I am working on. Back in October and November, I printed on white cotton with indigo paint. Not a color I had ever thought to work with in my past art life, but one which I have fallen in love with.

The pieces roughly measured 22" x 11". My thought was that each piece would be a spread from a book complete with crease/stitch down the middle. After looking at them and contemplating the possibilites for a while, I set to work hand stitching and monoprinting a bit more. Still...something just did not feel quite right. The muse was off talking to someone else.

Last Saturday, after a lot of thought about what was holding me back, I decided to cut the pieces in half so that they would be viewed as separate pages rather than as a whole spread.

The muse obviously approves of my decision because she is once again dancing in joy and whispering ideas in my ear. I thought I would share a few of my favorite sections.

There are 40+ pieces now which means a lot more work to do. They are free to be pages from a book or letters or...well...pages from a book or letters. In my mind that is what they are...for now.

  1. Hi Jennifer - I am glad you found me so I could find you! I am loving everything I've seen so far and will go back and read some more. These indigo pieces/pages are just wonderful - you are working into them so sensitively. Oh so delicious!

  2. Fiona - Thank you! I am so honored. I discovered your blog somehow through Art Propelled and have been enjoying the seemingly simple complexity of your work since. That you like rust is icing on the cake.

I started my art career as a basketry artist weaving traditional functional baskets and ended weaving lively colored abstract wall pieces. Working with fabric is very foreign to me so the kinks are getting worked out as I go. Having lots of fun experimenting though.

Thank you again for your kind words and for listing my blog on your's as well. Can't wait to see what you do next!
