Enjoy so much your photos. The dyeing pot with fruits was fun. The outcome of yellowish / greenish was wonderful. I've India's books but if I could attend her classes would be marvellous. Looking forward to your next post of Day 2. Terrie from Hong Kong
Thank you Terrie! Welcome to my blog. Attending one of India's classes is truly a delight and one that anyone interested in natural dyeing should experience. The photos from day 2 will come soon.
It was wonderful! It does help that yesterday was sunny and dry so going out to the dye pots was enjoyable. Today...well...Mother Nature decided to provide us with extra water for the dye pots.
I wish l could do one of her courses but something always happens stops me. hope you enjiy your course? What dye were your bundles dyed in..if l may ask? Lynda
Lynda, I recommend taking one of India's workshops if possible. It's a treat not only to learn from her, but to hear her stories as well. As for the dye bundles...one was in walnuts and I forget what was in the water of the other two. Sorry!
Thank you for sharing the blog post India. I really enjoyed the workshop. So much to ponder and digest. I hope the weather is better for the next ones in Cleveland.
I had to chuckle when I saw that you are attending an India Flint workshop Jennifer. Last Friday I actually advised the coordinator for her New Zealand visit early in the year, that I would not be able to make it. I am keen to see what you bring out of the workshop and into your studio. Feeling rather jealous over here .....
Oh no! I'm sorry you can't make India's workshop. It truly was delight on so many levels. Not sure how I'll use what was learned...I tend to like clean geometric shapes best rather than the organic shapes of leaves, etc. Still, it was take a bit to digest everything. Most of all, it was such a treat to listen to India and to learn from her. She's a very giving teacher and quite knowledgable.
Thank you Christine! The essence of the day is what exactly what I was aiming for. I so enjoyed dinner last night! You know, if you're ever in the NYC area... Have fun with the second workshop group. I'll be thinking of you!
Hey Jennifer-guess we're both out of town this week. The workshop looks fantastic..you always take such great photos. Can you tell me more about the white bag with the running stitch "pictures"? Love the fabric with the bit of yellow as well. Are your markers from the beads I sent you? I'll loving it out here in San Francisco..still looking for indigo...
Yep. We're both traveling this week, although I fly back to reality in a few hours while you get to have adventures in San Fransisco.
The "white bag with the running stitch" is actually a piece of fabric {forget what at the moment} that I stitched a small square shape on and then folded and wrapped around a walnut. The "after being in the dye pot" are what follows it.
And yes, I used your lovely beads as the markers. Thankfully, they all stood up well to the dye pot and heat. Have fun in SF!
ow, how lovely this all looks! I'm going to attend a 5 day workshop with Dorothy Caldwell next week here in the Netherlands (in a lovely part of our country, Zeeland). Aren't we wise and blessed to spend our time like this! On Facebook we are dreaming about inviting you, coming to the Netherlands India. For now, thanks for sharing (I know it takes precious time) the pictures of your journeys with us!
Oooh, how awesome!I just learned about India Flint's books from a friend qhobi think attended the same workshop. He's an artist from N.M. I so so so wish I could have taken this workshop.
Bridgette, India's books are a feast for the eyes. I have both and look at them often for inspiration and in total admiration of the creativity and skill involved in producing such wonderful works. The workshop was such fun - a treasure trove of info. India is giving, humorous and very knowledgeable. If you get the chance to take one of her workshops, do!
You have totally intrigued me!! I found your bundling process via a pic on Pinterest. Your amazing photos here led me to India Flint and her book on Amazon, which I just ordered. Thank you, Jennifer, for the wonderful inspiration! I surely don't need another interest/project, but that's the way with us creative souls! There simply aren't enough hours in the day.
I absolutely love needlework and would love to use dyed fabrics from this process and see what happens! I shared your blog with my daughter, Holly Knott, who is an art quilter. I'm sure she'll be visiting also.
Here's to 'messes' that lead to something beautiful!
Hi Diane and welcome and thank you so, so much! I'm sure India would say thank you also. This was a delightful workshop with the one and only India Flint - full of info and stories, dyed fabrics and hands, leaves and nuts and just plain fun. Natural dyeing is actually fairly easy and quite addictive so be forewarned. Ha!
oooooo bestill my heart!

Deletegrand, i know how you feel! and what about that bone piece?
ReplyDeleteThe bone is a bead that was a gift from a friend. It made a wonderful marker for my pieces in the dye pot.
Deleteahh, i wondered if you were wittling...
DeleteHa! No. I'm probably manage to whittle one of fingers off instead... Much better to use something else as a marker.

Welcome to my blog! I'm rather jealous that you get to take Dorothy's workshop. I took a class with her as well in 2006 and would love to do so again.
DeleteIf India is ever in the Netherlands, take her workshop. It's a real treat. India is such a wonderful teacher and full of funny little stories. Enjoy!
It all looking so beautiful, makes me itch to put a pot on tomorrow....
ReplyDeleteThank you Annie! I have a feeling a lot of pots are getting a workout this week. I'd love to the results if you do too.
